Cupping

Cupping therapy is an old and effective method of releasing the toxins from body tissue and organs that has other useful therapeutic benefits as well when used as a physical therapy intervention.
It is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. The pressure from the suction will then cause the tissue beneath the cup to be drawn up and swell, increasing blood flow to the area underneath the cup. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws impurities and toxins away from the nearby tissues and organs towards the surface for elimination.Cupping therapy can help treat many ailments, and can even be used on “healthy” patients. Some ailments that benefit from cupping therapy include chronic headaches of musculoskeletal origins, lower back pain, neck pain, and knee pain. Non-localized illnesses that have seen benefits with cupping therapy include hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases and various musculoskeletal ailments.Cupping provides different effects depending on which parts of the body are targeted by the therapist. For the nervous system, cupping therapy can provide sensory nerve stimulation and decrease pain signals. For the muscles, cupping will stimulate blood flow and improve lymphatic drainage, and is used to improve blood flow and secretion of synovial fluids (fluids within each joint) when used on joints.Cupping will improve overall blood circulation wherever it is placed, and is even used to help with digestion and excretion of the digestive system. Over skin, cupping therapy can improve functioning of glands on the skin, improve healing times and improve overall skin metabolism. When performed by a skilled practitioner cupping is an easy, low maintenance, and low risk therapy which is why it is commonly used clinically for a wide variety of patients.
