DR. NIKEETA KUNDAL

Nikeeta Kundal started her physical therapy schooling after her 12th grade in India, which lasted 4 ½ to 5 years, including a 6 month internship in a hospital. In 2021 she came to the United States to pursue a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Nikeeta is currently working as a limited permit physical therapist and will take her exam very soon to become a licensed permit physical therapist. She also published a research paper for her master’s degree. Eight months ago, Nikeeta joined the Riverdale Physical Therapy practice and she loves it!

Nikeeta believes in both manual therapy and modalities, stating:

They work better together and I have seen benefits for patients when both are used.

She is also interested in muscular skeletal systems and in neurology:

I am an aspiring OCS (orthopedic clinical specialist) and interested in getting an OCS certificate, which will enable me to work in an orthopedic outpatient clinic. I am also very interested in balance training and fall prevention and think it is very important. I would like to see that expanded in our practice as well.

I am excited by the variety of patients, from young to old. We treat geriatric patients who can’t even walk. It requires me to ‘put myself in their shoes’ to understand where they are coming from. Therapy they can get anywhere, but if they have a connection with you it becomes much easier to help them. For example, we had one patient who couldn’t stand up, and earlier in his life he was a runner. I can’t imagine what he must have been going through. But I will always try and emotionally connect, rather than just having them come in and we work on them and that’s it. The work is more than that. Sometimes patients are emotionally vulnerable when they come to us. They need that extra nudge and we will say: ‘You are going to get better… and we are going to help you get better.
